These kinglets are common winter visitors to Oasis Valley, arriving in September and departing in May. In especially cold periods in the depth of winter, the kinglets seem to depart, perhaps for warmer lower areas in the desert, but they return with milder winter days. In spring and fall I occasionally hear singing. They breed in the forested mountains of Nevada, especially in the eastern part of the state. They also breed in the Sierra Nevada of Calfornia, and in the high subalpine forests of the White and Inyo Mountains (Inyo County).

Kinglets are characteristically jumpy and active while flitting through the leaves after small insects. This one starts a leap off the twig to grab a tiny insect.
