Northern harriers are premanent residents in Oasis Valley. I have watched them several years in a row nest in a particular dense patch of marsh, building their nest on the ground amidst tall bulrushes and cattails that screened the nest from view. If I came too close bith hawks flew by me angrily, calling "kek-kek-kek-kek-kek". I left them alone. Later in spring and summer, two to three juveniles began testing their wings, flying about the marshes and river grasslands with their parents.

Northern harriers also hunt in the creosote deserts surrounding the valley.
