^A fall teal swims in a pond. Cinnamon teals breed throughout northern Nevada in wetlands, and perhaps they once bred in Oasis Valley decades or centuries ago. Since I've lived here they have been one of our more common migrating ducks, in spring and fall, with most in March. They can be found in any pond, large or small, as well as river poyholes filled with water after a flood, or even shallow flowing river reaches when the Amargosa River runs after a storm. In spring the brilliant reddish plumage of the males is always a pleasure to see.
